Q

gove some detail of each of the types of weather hazards in uk:

A

1) thunderstorms:
they hit unpredicatable places so they can be damaging. They also have lots of rainfall which could cause flash floods.
2) Prolonged rainfall:
the long periods of rain fall can cause river flooding and this could cause damage
3)Droughts:
The long periods of extreme heat could be fatal for elderly as this could cause a heat stroke. This could also cause rivers to dry up and bring danger to the water supply and wildlife.
4) Heavy snow:
Heavy snow usually happens in sub zero chonditions and this could be a problem as this could cause a risk to the elderly and the population. Heavy snow also disrupts travel and causes accidnets and will cause some crops to suffer.
5) Winds:
These can cause disruptins to power supplies and cause falling trees which could affect transport.

Q

What are the main reasons why the weather in the UK are becomming more extreme?

A
  • warmer atmosphere= more energy to fuel storms
    -hotter=longer periods of hot weather
-wetaher patterns are becomming stuck due to the chnaging climate meaning taht they are experiencing prolonged weather events more frequently (UK climate is controlled by jet stream and sometimes this jet stream becomes stuck and blcoked and causes teh weathe rpattern to be stuck.)
