Chái Gé Jiĕ Jī Tāng Flashcards
Method of Preparation
Do not cook for more than 20 minutes.
Actions
Releases pathogenic influences from the muscle layer and clears interior heat
Diagnostic Pattern
Unresolved, exterior wind-cold that has become constrained and is transforming into heat. It is also known as “simultaneous greater yang and yang brightness-warp disorder.”
Indications
exterior wind-cold presentation characterized by increasing fever and decreasing chills
headache
stiffness of the extremities
orbital and eye pain
dry nasal passages
irritability
insomnia
T: thin, yellow coat
P: floating, slightly flooding

chái hú
gé gēn
cool, acrid
release pathogenic influence from muscle layer while concurrently clearing heat
qiāng huó
bái zhĭ
helps chiefs release exterior and alleviate pain
enter into greater yang and yang brightness channels –> assist in focusing formula in this territory
huáng qín
shí gāo
clearing interior heat
huáng qín: Lungs and upper burner
shí gāo: yang brightness channel
jié gĕng
facilitates flow of Lung qi and helps scatter the pathogenic influence from the exterior
bái sháo
sour and cold
preserves the yin by preventing exterior-releasing herbs from causing excessive sweating
gān căo
harmonizes the actions of the other herbs
gān căo + jié gĕng
helps clear heat from the upper burner, especially from the throat
sheng jiāng
dà zăo
regulate protective and nutritive qi to facilitate the release of the pathogenic influence
Cautions and Contraindications
This formula is inappropriate for simple exterior wind-heat disorders.
