Life Cycle of T Cruzi

A
  1. Infected Triatomine bug bites human (Triatoma, rhodinius)
  2. T Cruzi epimastigotes have been dividing within the bug to create infective metacyclics.
  3. These are excreted in faeces after a blood meal. Highly itchy, making is scratch them into our skin.
  4. Circulating circulating trypomastigotes make their way to muscles where they become pseudocysts containing dividing amastigotes.
  5. Trypomastigotes continue to circulate creating potential for ongoing infection in other bugs.
