What did Chadwick believe in which made the cholera epidemic worse?
Believe in Miasma. Told people to put all waste in River Thames. Where it mades its way into water supply.
What did John Snow publish in what year?
A book claiming dirty water was the cause of cholera.
How many people died of Cholera in what year?
In 1854, 700 people of cholera around Broad Street.
What did Snow do in 1854 when 700 people died around Broad Street.
He mapped the area.
Found 3 pieces of evidence which backed up his theory:
When he removed the handle of the pump no one else died of cholera.
Lady who died in same outbreak but lived far away was discovered that she would take water from that pump.
Snow discovered that no one had died from the brewery across the street from the pump because they all had been drinking alcohol.
What did snow also find near the pump?
A leaking toilet.
How long did it take for Snows ideas to be accepted and why?
30 years, until Robert Koch identified cholerae is the cause of cholera.
