29
Q

What the connection between Jean Dauvissat and Vincent Dauvissat?

A

Jean is the cousin of Vincent.
They both own parcels of Les Preuses and Vaillons. While Vincent ferments in SS/Enamel and ages everything in barrel, the oak isn’t new and usually 6-8 years old. Jean (his son Sebastien makes the wine) makes the village/1er Cru wines in SS but the GC wines are feremented/aged in oak, 25% new.

30
Q

What was the 2013 vintage in Chablis like?

A

Not catastrophic, but not exceptional. Chablis escaped the hail that ravaged other parts of Burgundy, but had to deal with poor weather during flowering, thus milleranderage and coulure. Add to that big problems with rot in the vineyards, so what the vignerons did in the vineyard and sorting will determine the quality of the wine. A “winemakers” vintage.

Who owns most of the Grenouilles Grand Cru?

A

Chablisienne owns 7.2 of the 9.38 ha

A

1955 was intensely cold and in 1956 frost decimated the vintage

Q

Kimmeridgian is what kind of soil?

A

Marl - limestone with clay

34
Q

How does kimmeridgian marl differ from Portlandian limestone?

A

Portlandian limestone is thinner and sandier

Kimmeridgian is porous and more mineral rich

35
Q

Where does Louis Michel stand on oak/no oak?

A

Definitely no oak at all!
