CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores Flashcards
What disease state are the CHA2DS2-VASc and HAS-BLED scores used in?
Only Used in AFIB*
What risk factors does the CHA2DS2-VASc score assess for?
Stroke
Systemic VTE
What risk factors does the HAS-BLED score assess for?
Bleeding
What are the 8 components associated with the CHA2DS2-VASc score?
C: congestive heart failure
H: hypertension
A (2): age > or =75 years
D: diabetes
S (2): stroke/TIA
-
V: vascular disease
A: age 65-74 years
Sc: female
What two components of the CHA2DS2-VASc score have 2 points associated with them?
Age > or = 75 years
Stroke/TIA
What are the 7 components associated with the HAS-BLED score?
H: hypertension (SBP >160)
A: abnormal renal and liver function
S: stroke
-
B: bleeding tendency/predisposition
L: labile INR’s (if on warfarin)
E: age > 65 years
D: drugs or alcohol
What two components of the HAS-BLED score have 2 points associated with them?
Abnormal renal and liver function (1 each)
Drugs or alcohol (1 each)
What score on CHA2DS2-VASc indicates that a patient needs to receive oral anticoagulation?
> or = 2
What score on the HAS-BLED indicates that a patient has a high bleeding risk?
> or = 3
If a patient receives a score of 3 or higher on the HAS-BLED, what does this mean for their treatment?
*HAS-BLED cannot be used on its own to exclude patients from oral anticoagulation therapy
*All HAS-BLED does is identify bleeding risks that can then possibly be corrected (such as hypertension)
*HAS-BLED shows what patients should have anticoagulants be used with caution and should be regularly reviewed
