Ch.9 Skeletal Muscle Structures Flashcards
Aponeuroses
BROAD sheet of conn. tissue that ATTATCHES coverings of adjacent MUSCLES.
Cisternae
ENLARGED portion of sarcoplasmic reticulum on either side of a transverse tubule.
Endomysium
Layer of conn. tissue that surrounds an INDIVIDUAL MUSCLE FIBER. (one muscle fiber=one cell)
Epimysium
Layer of conn. tissue that surrounds a SKELETAL MUSCLE.
Fascia
NETORK of conn. tissue that extends throughout the muscular system.
Fascicle
A BUNDLE of muscle fibers
Myosin
A protein found with in thick myofibril
Perimysium
The layer of connective tissue that SEPARATES a muscle into small BUNDLES known a fascicles.
Sarcolemma
The cell membrane of a muscle fiber.
Sarcomere
The unit of alternating light and dark striations.
Sarcoplasm
Cytoplasm of a muscle fiber.
Sarcoplasmic reticulum
Cellular organelle in muscle fiber corresponding to the endoplasmic reticulum.
Tendon
Cordlike part that attatches a MUSCLE to a BONE.
Transverse tubule
Membranous out channel extending inward from muscle iber membrane.
