Q

Explain how London forces form

A

Some e- randomly move closer to others through random movement of e-. For a brief instant, a partial negative charge forms (instanteneous dipole). Those attract to induced dipoles (which are also instantaneous.)

Q

Why is oxygen gas (O2) a gas at room temperature?

A

Nonpolar molecule, only has weak London Forces, which aren’t strong enough to hold it as a solid or liquid
