CH.8/DC Flashcards
What is QoS? Pg.384
Quality of Service-a strategy that allows an administrator to control traffic to maintain a certain level of service.
What are the five types of problems with data that QoS focus’ on? Pg.385
Delay, usually caused by congested routes that prevent critical data from arriving on time.
Dropped packets, which often causes delay.
Error or corrupted data.
Jitter or variation in packet delay in a data stream.
Out of order delivery. which can cause performance issues in time sensitive apps(VOIP)
What are the levels of QoS? Pg.385
0=Best effort
1=Background
2=Standard
3=Excellent load (business critical applications)
4=Controlled load(streaming media)
5=Interactive voice and video(less than 100ms latency)
6=Layer 3 network control reserved traffic(less than 10ms latency)
7=Layer 3 network control reserved traffic(lowest latency)
When installing a router, what key( Some consider must do’s)things should be performed? Pg. 386
Change default SSID, administrator username/password to a very high secure one, configure the best security possible-WEP2(AES), and set a strong passphrase for clients to join the network.
How do firewalls work? Pg.383
They are configured to allow only packets that pass specific security restrictions. Also they can permit, deny, encrypt/decrypt and proxy all traffic that flows through them.
Name the different types of firewall. Pg.382/383
hardware or software, networked based or host based
What is a DMZ? Pg.382
demilitarized zone-an area that is set-up outside of the trusted network(but still has a connection to that network)usually by way of a double nic router
What is UPnP? Pg.380
Universal Plug n Play- is a standard that uses Internet and Web protocols to enable devices such as PCs, peripherals, intelligent appliances, and wireless devices to be plugged into a network and automatically know about each other
What is NAT? Pg.379
Network address Translation-it’s the translating of a private IP address to a public IP address.
T/F You can have multiple host on a network with each having their own unique IP, and your network has it’s own unique IP.
True
Why is it necessary when configuring WAPs to create overlapping ranges.Pg.378
When there is a need for multiple access points, to allow for roaming from one area to the next without signal loss.
What is needed for a wireless router to use WPA2 Enterprise? Pg.378
A RADIUS server on the network.
