What is civil law and what are some examples?

Examples: divorce, child custody, protective orders, injunctions, debt, personal damages
What is Tort?
Any one of various, legally recognized, private injuries or wrongs. A civil action
This is a law in which for the purpose of preventing harm to a society, (a) declares what conduct is criminal, and (b) prescribes the punishment to be imposed for such conduct. It includes the definition of specific offenses and general principles of criminal responsibility.
Examples: criminal trespass, murder, assault, theft
