what are the 2 categories of data?
A
categorical (words e.g. hair colour)
numerical (numbers e.g. number of people)

data can be divided into 2 sources…
A
primary (survey/experiment carried out by urself)
secondary (data obtained from other sources e.g. internet, newspaper)

ways to collect data
A
- survey (questionnaire, telephone survey, observation)
- experiment (usually done in the laboratory)
- research (books, website, newspaper)

population and sample
A
- a population = the entire group that u want to draw conclusions about
- a sample = the specific group u will collect data from (the size of the sample is always less than the total size of the population)

bias
A
- occurs if sample is not carefully selected
- can affect outcome of survey
- too small or too large sample size can affect outcome of survey

random sample
A
- a sample is said to be random if every member of the population has equal chance of being selected or chosen
