ch5: enzymes Flashcards
What gives enzymes in term of proteins there specificity?
each enzymes has a specific shape of active site determined by sequences of amin acids in the polypeptide chain ,pattern of folding and coiling held by interactions between R groups by hydrogen bonds ,ionic bonds and disulfide bonds and hydrophobic interactions that give the enzyme its specific final 3D shape
describe the ways by which the enzyme and subs molecules interact
-enzymes have a specific shape of active site complementary to the substrate mol so fit and bind
-by temporary Hydrogen bonds giving enzyme-substrate complex
this gives enzymes specificity so products no longer fit to the enzymes active site so products will be released, enzymes can be reused, enzymes lower activation energy
explain how enzymes lower the activation energy
provide an alternative pathway, as active site brings the reactants perfectly together making it easier for bonds to be made, or puts strain on bonds making it easier for bonds to be broken
