CH4) Stoichiometry of chemical reactions Flashcards

1
Q

Mass relations in reactions

A
  • chemical equations represent chemical reactions
  • reactants appear on the left
  • products appear on the right
  • equation must be balamced
  • number of atom of each element on the left
  • equal the number of atoms of each element on the right

Q

How are equation written?

A
  • know Reactants and products for a reaction for which equation is to be written
  • often necessary to do an experiment and analysis

Q

Writing chemical equation

A

1) wirte a skeleton equation for the reaction
2) indicate the physical state of each reactant and product
3) balance the eqaution
4) onlt the coefficients can be changed; subscripts are fixed bu chemical nature of the reactants and products
5) it is best to balance atoms that appear only once on each side of the eqaution first
