What powers did the Federal government have (Articles of Confederation)?

A

States had all the power (weak)
Federal Congress-Each state had 1 vote, 13 total votes, Congress couldn’t do anything without the states permission, had to ask other states for money.

What problems did the new nations have?

A

States faught over who owns Ohio, nation owed money to France, Spain, Dutch, private citizens & every soldiers who served in American Rev. Congress had no power to tax down debt, British don’t leave forts in Ohio & Spain closed New Orleans to U.S.

What was the Northwest Ordinance of 1787? Rules to become a new state?

A

Established new states in Ohio, when they have 60,000 ppl, they could create a state, had to set up public schools, slavery wasn’t allowed.

What was Shay’s rebellion and what did it cause?

A

Mass taxes raised, ppl lost land & couldn’t pay tax, Daniel Shays starts a rebellion. It was eventually stopped, all pardoned, all states see problems and agree to meet in Phyilly (1787).
