Ch.4 Flashcards
Temperature controls
factors that cause temp to vary from place to place
Temp controls
differential heating of land & water ocean currents altitude geographic position could cover and albedo
Specific Heat
The amount of heat needed to raise the temp by 1 gram 1 degree celsius
Water specific heat
is more than 3 times greater for water than land, thus is requires considerably more heat to raise it’s temp. Also means it stores heat and cools slower than land.
Convection
Convection is the vertical movement of air
Advection
Advection is the horizontal movement of air
where is highest urban temp?
City core
Lowest urban temp
City park
Cloudy days vs cloudy nights
cooler days vs warmer nights
Wind Chill Index
Calculate how the temperature feels on peoples skin taking into account wind. Only n estimate of human discomfort
