Material culture
noticeable & definite artifacts, physical objects, and items found in society. (physical output of human labor and expression. )
Non-Material culture
unnoticeable(intangible) & abstract components of a society, including values, beliefs, and traditions.
Culture
a human society’s total way of life; it’s learned and shared and includes values, customs, material objects, and symbols.
values
beliefs about ideal goals and behavior that serve as standards for social life.
norms
rules & expectations by which a society guides the behavior of its members.
folkways
informal norms that suggest customary ways of behaving.
mores
norms that carry a strong sense of social importance and necessity.
laws
formal norms codified and enforced by the legal power of the state.
sanction
a penalty for norm violation or a reward for norm adherence.
