Ch.2, Les 3 Flashcards
Chemical reaction for cellular respiration
C6H12O6 (sugar) + O2 (oxygen) –> CO2 (carbon dioxide) + H2O (water) + energy ( ATP)
Carbohydrate
A compound made for carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Cellular respiration
Process where starches and sugar are broken down into the cells.
Cellulose
The main substance that makes up the cell wall in plants.
Chlorophyll
The chemical that absorbs and stores the energy of sunlight.
Chloroplast
Where photosynthesis is carried out, located in the cells under the epidermis.
Photosynthesis
The process that uses energy from the sun to make food from water and carbon dioxide.
Chemical reaction for photosynthesis
CO2 (carbon dioxide) + energy (sun) + H2O (water) –> c6h12o6 (sugar) + O2 (oxygen)
Stomata
Tiny pores in the bottom of the leaves that take in carbon dioxide from the air
