Ch2 HVAC Flashcards
1
Q
Water to Water
A
- Water used to cool condenser - cooling tower
- Water used to bring coolth to rest of building
- No air handling unit
- Geothermal water to water - use earth as heat sink not cooling tower
2
Q
Water to Air
A
- Water used to cool off condenser
- Air flows over evaporator and brought to zones w/ ducts (Air handling unit)
3
Q
Air to Air
A
- Air used for both condenser and evaporator
- Single family house
- Uses refrigerant coming in contact with air not water
- Don’t have to be split - both inside or window unit
4
Q
Single Zoned
A
air handling unit at each zone
5
Q
VAV w/ Terminal Reheat
A
- One air handling unit
- Fewer ducts
- VAV box w/ damper to control zones
- Can’t close all the way
- Terminal Reheat - heating air you cooled - shouldn’t happen often if zone well
6
Q
Fan Coil Unit
A
- No ducts
- Fan and coil
- Fan in room noisy
7
Q
Radiant Cooling
A
- Ceiling is chilled w/ water
- Opposite of rad flooring ( same idea - feel comf. w/ lower set point)
- Too much thermal mass bad
- Better in 24/7 buildings
- Cool just before due point
8
Q
Chilled Beam
A
- Same as rad. cooling
- May use fan
- Uses supply chilled water
9
Q
Valiance System
A
- Pipe in ceiling
- Heating or cooling
- Has pan for condensation - so can cool past due pt.
10
Q
Mini Split
A
- Single Outdoor Unit
- Can’t reverse flow
- Use ref. not water
- If need simultaneous heating and cooing - take ref. from cold space and bring to hot space.
11
Q
Swamp Cooler
A
- Warm dry air over wet surface - evaporative cooling
- Would add moisture on humid days
