ch2: Describing Motion Flashcards
Distance covered
is the length of the path taken by a moving object.
Average speed
total distance travelled by an object divided by total time.
uniform speed
An object travels the same distance in equal intervals of time.
stationary or at rest
An object has zero speed.
Instantaneous speed
speed of an object at any given moment
Displacement
is the straight-line distance in a specified direction from an origin. It is a vector quantity.
vector
any physical quantity that has magnitude and direction.
scalar
any physical quantity that only has magnitude.
Velocity
is given by the change in displacement per unit time.
uniform velocity
An objects displacement changes by the same amount in equal intervals of time.
Acceleration
is given by the change in velocity per unit time.
