Cause of dyspnea in cardiac patients? further assess?
LVHF
does it happen only with exertion or also at rest?
What is orthopnea?
dyspnea that is relieved by sitting or standing from a lying position.
What is paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea?
orthopnic dyspnea that occurs after 1-2 hours of sleep.
What is the significance of syncope or dizziness in relation to cardiac function?
can be a sign of decreased cerebral blood flow.
What are some things that can cause a cough in relation to the cardiovascular system? what else would you ask?
ACE inhibitor adverse effect
HF
PE
mirtal stenosis
Is it wet or dry?
Frequency?
Is it productive? Assess the sputum. (color, odor, consistency, and amount)
why would cardiac patients nocturese?
insufficient perfusion during the day when the rest of the body is active is compensated while the body is resting.
If the patient is taking a diuretic assess frequency in relation to time of day diuretic is taken.
claudication cause?
usually severe atherosclerotic obstruction
How do you assess for JVD?
Look for pulsations with tangential light at 30,45,60,90 degree angles, head should be turned slightly from examiner.
