People in the American colonies who wanted the colonies to break away from Great Britain. Such people favored independence for the colonies.

People in the American colonies who wanted the colonies to remain under the control of the king and Great Britain. Loyalists were loyal to the king and opposed independence.

A
Americans colonists who did not support either side(Loyalists or patriots) in the fight for independence from Great Britain.
