Concentric
muscle shortens (e.g. biceps shortening when lifting grocery bags)
Eccentric
muscle lengthens (greatest chance for injury like pulling a muscle)
Isometric
muscle length stays the same (good for stretching)
Skeletal
attached to skeleton, voluntary, striated, and multinucleated
Cardiac
found in heart, involuntary, striated, usually uninucleated, and intercalated discs with gap junctions for cell communication to coordinate heart beat
Smooth
found in organ systems such as respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive
systems, and blood vessels, involuntary, not striated (smooth appearance),
uninucleated, and desmin intermediate filaments used for contraction
Inferior, Medial, Superior, and Lateral rectus
moves eyeball in direction according to its name
Inferior oblique
eyeball rolls up
Superior oblique
eyeball rolls down
Shoulder Girdle (SITS)
Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres minor, & Subscapularis
Gastrocnemius
plantar flexion or ankle extension
Helps pointing the toes and is involved in movement like walking, running, and jumping.
