Ch.1 Flashcards
What are examples of the Degree of Osteokinematic mvmt?
Flex, ext, abduct., adduct. int/ext rotation
Usually joints have 4 - 6 degrees max of mvmt
Define Osteokinematic mvmt
When Concentric / Eccentric contraction, or gravity, causes a bone a jt to move in relation to another bone.
Define Arhrokinetmatic mvmt:
Mvmt btw 2 articulation surfaces w/o referencing external forces
Define Accessory mvmts
Arthrokinematic mvmts btw 2 jt surf.
Roll / Slide / Glide
Arthrokin mvmts must be normal for Osteokin mvmts to occur
Joint play:
The movability of a joint while in “Loose Pack” position
Name some benefits of joints mobs:
decrease pain increase ROM increase Osteokin mvmt Passive modality increase articular healt
List the Structural class. of jts
- Fibrous
- Cartilaginous
- Synovial
List the Function Class. of jts
- Diarthrotic
- Amphiarthrotic
- Synarthroltic
List the Subtypes of Synovial 9 (movable) jts:
- Planar - Biaxial - back/front + side/side
- Condyloid - Biaxial - flex/ext + ABd/ADd
- Hinge - Monoaxial - flex/ext
- Pivot - Monoaxial - int/ext rt
- Saddle - Multiaxial - flex/ext + Abd/ADd + int/ext rt
- Ball & Socket - Multiaxial - “”
List Arthrokinematic Accessory mvmts:
Glide/Slide - back/forth
Spin - bone turns around mechanical axis while maintaining const. contact ex: knee rt
Roll - Always moving, like a roll of tape, along it’s typical physiological mvmt of bone
What is the Concave/Convex Rule?
If concave moves on convex, Glide is SAME DIRECTION as roll
If Convex moves on Concave, Glide is in OPPOSITE DIRECTION to roll
what mvmt is Osteokin mvmt dependant on?
Glide/Slide b/c the shape of jt depends on the articular surf of moving bones
Define Close Pack Position
CI’d!!!!
jt is fixed/locked and articular surf are close together
Define Loose Pack Position
- Good for jt mobs!
- Arthrokin mvmt
- restriction is identified, back off 10 degrees, then perform mob
Define Resting Position
Ideal for jt mob, most lax, most Accessory mvmt availalbe
