Ch. 9 Learning Flashcards
An event that elicits a certain predictable response without previous training
Unconditioned Stimulus
Best results occur when the neutral stimulus is presented right before the unconditional stimulus. (Little Albert, Pavlov’s dog)
Classical Conditioning
Unlearned response that is automatically associated with the US
Unconditioned Response
A once neutral event that elicits a given response after a period of training in which it has been paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
Conditioned Stimulus
Learned response to the CS
Conditioned Response
Ability to respond differently to similar but distinct stimuli
(Say mommy to only your mom)
Discrimination
Conditioned response can reappear again without any further conditioning
Spontaneous Recovery
After getting sick from something, whenever you’re around it again it makes you feel queasy
Taste Aversion
Things like money (becomes rewarding through its link to the primary reinforcer)
Secondary Reinforcer
Learned reactions that follow one another in sequence, each reaction producing the signal for the next
Response Chain
Increasing a behavior by taking away an aversive behavior
Negative Reinforcement
(Later Learning)
Watching someone else do an action and you’re able to do the same action later
Latent Learning
Believing that no matter what you do your actions make no difference
Learned Helplessness
An unpleasant consequence that decreases the frequency of the response that produced it
Punishment
