How do you care for a halo vest?

A

If CPR is required, must be removed.
It opens with a wrench.
Inspect pins and traction bars for any loosening
Do NOT pull on vest bars to move or assess patient
Perform skull pin care 2x daily
Turn ind. every 2 hours, inspect skin around edges
Skin care; clean with a damp cloth

What is chronic pain? How can it be managed?

A

Central neuropathic pain can be caused by the damage to the nerves in the spinal cord.

Signals are sent to the brain for the damaged nerves in the spinal cord, and these signals are interpreted as pain.

Anti-seizure meds, such as pregrablin.
