CH 8: Momentum and Collisions Flashcards

1
Q

what is an impulse

A

a force applied over a period of time causes a change in motion
J = difference of momentum(p) = Fnet*difference of time

Q

what is an inelastic collision

A

a collision where the obj usually sticks together (perfectly inelastic)
conserves momentum but does NOT conserve total KET

6
Q

what is an elastic collision

A

objs bounce off eachother (think of elastic being bouncy)
both momentum and KE are conserved
has two equations to work with
𝑚𝐴𝑣⃗𝐴 + 𝑚𝐵𝑣⃗𝐵 = 𝑚𝐴𝑣⃗′𝐴 + 𝑚𝐵𝑣⃗′
and
𝑣⃗𝐴 − 𝑣⃗𝐵 = −(𝑣⃗𝐴
′ − 𝑣⃗𝐵′ )
