Ch. 8 Bulk Deformation // Extrusion & Drawing Flashcards
1
Q
Extrusion
A
Forming process in which work metal is forced to flow through a die opening to produce a desired cross-sectional shape. Used to produce long parts of uniform cross sections.
2
Q
What are two types of extrusion?
A
Direct and indirect
3
Q
Hot Extrusion
A
- Heat the billet above the recrystallization temp
-Reduce strength and increase ductility
-Reduces ram forces and increases ram speed
-Forms oxide films
`
4
Q
Cold Extrusion
A
-Produce discrete parts at high rates
-Increases mechanical properties
-Improves surface finish partly due to lack of oxide films.
-Tight dimensional tolerances
