- 15th(1870) cannot be denied the right to vote based on race color
- 19th(1920) allowed women to vote
- 23rd(1961) added voters of the District of Columbia to the presidential election
- 24th(1964) eliminated poll tax
- 26th(1971) minimum voting age of 18
Voter qualifications?
- citizenship- must become a citizen of the u.s. to vote
- residence- must be a legal resident of the state for at least 30 days
- age- must be at least 18
- registration- identifies voters to prevent fraudulent voting
Gerrymandering?
The practice of drawing electoral district lines in order to limit voting to advantage of a political party.
Voter apathy?
Non-voters. Chose not to vote.
Characteristics of voters?
High levels of education, income, and occupational status.
Long time residents.
Characteristics of non-voters?
Younger than 35
Lives in the south

Ways to nominate?
Self-announcement-write in candidates
Direct primary- intra party election
