Ch. 6 Ethics Flashcards
ethics
“a discipline within philosophy concerned with human conduct”
two principles of relationship ethics
equitability and caring
Equitability
the proposition “that everyone is entitled to have his or her welfare interests considered in a way that is fair from a multilateral perspective”
caring
the idea that moral development and principles are centered on the social context of relationships and interdependency
6 ACA meta-ethical principles
autonomy non-maleficence beneficence veracity fidelity justice
bug-in-the-ear supervision method
a supervision model in which the therapist working with a family receives messages from a supervisor through a telephone hookup device.
capitated contract
a managed care method of cutting costs in which providers agree to provide treatment for a per-person, per-year fee
care pathway guidelines
instructions and directions in the managed care arena that delineate specific timelines in which diagnosis, interventions, decision-making processes, clinical services, and the potential interactions among multidisciplinary health care professionals should occur
family therapy supervision
a systemic type of supervision that includes a focus on interpersonal as well as intrapersonal issues
in camera review
a process in which an impartial party, usually a judge, reviews a therapist’s records and releases only those portions that are relevant to the situation at hand in a court case (the Latin term in camera means “in chambers”)
liability
a legal term dealing with obligation and responsibility. A liability may be civil—for example, dealing with professional malpractice such as negligence; criminal—for example, dealing with the committing of a crime; or administrative—for example, dealing with an investigation by a licensure board.
neutrality
literally, value free; some family therapies pride themselves on operating within a neutrality frame-work. Critics of such a framework claim that all therapy has moral and political values. A neutrality stance has deep ethical implications.
utilization review
the process in managed health care by which a therapist submits a written justification for treatment along with a comprehensive treatment plan to a utilization reviewer for approval
