Ch. 5 The Conceptual Basis For D&I Research Flashcards
What is Theory?
A set of interrelated concepts, definitions, and propositions that present a systematic view of events or situations by specifying relations among variables, in order to explain and predict events or situations.
What is a conceptual framework?
A type of intermediate theory that attempts to connect to all aspects of inquiry; can act like maps that give coherence to empirical inquiry.
What is a Model?
A description of analogy is used to help visualize something that cannot be directly observed.
What are Process Models in D&I?
Process Models include models that focus on describing and/or guiding the process of translating research into practice.
What are the focuses of Process Models?
Process Models focus on the time sequence of implementation and the importance of barriers and facilitators to D&I efforts.
What are NOT focuses of Process Models?
Process Models do not identify or systematically structure what makes D&I efforts successful.
What are determinant frameworks, classic theories, and implementation theories?
Determinant frameworks, classic theories, and implementation theories are used to guide research aimed at understanding and/or explaining the factors that influence the outcomes of D&I efforts?
What are the focuses of Determinant Frameworks?
Determinant Frameworks describe five common determinants which are:
1) The implementation object
2) The users/adopters
3) The context
4) The implementation strategy
5) The outcome
Are Determinant Frameworks based on Theory?
They may be based on theory, but limited in scope.
How are classic and implementation theories used in D&I research?
Theories from implementation science or other fields are needed for research aimed at enhancing the understanding of relationships, change mechanisms, or to predict outcomes.
What are the focuses of evaluation frameworks?
Evaluation frameworks focus on identifying specific aspects of the D&I effort to evaluate in order to determine success.
