- Chronological framework that emphasizes the narrative qualities of a piece

- A secondary plot within a piece of literature that accompanies the main plot yet is lesser in importance

- The part of a story’s plot that introduces the reader to the setting, characters and situation

- The incident that sets the events of the conflict in motion

- The events that follow the inciting incident and lead up to the crisis in a story

- The major turning point for the main character; the point at which something happens that affects the outcome of the story & determines the future of the main character
