Ch. 5: Principles for Point Selection Flashcards
Name the 6 principles for point selection
- Selection of nearby points
- Selection of distal points

- Selection of points according to their specific property (application of specific points)
- Selection of points according to western medicine
- Selection of points according to modern research
Selection of nearby points
Nearby refers to the local area of the disease or adjacent area of the disease. Application involves tender points and ashi points.
Selection of distal points
Distal refers to a location far from the diseased area. Generally these points are located below the elbows and knees.
Name 6 ways to apply distal point selection

- Selection from exteriorly-interiorly related meridians
- Selection based on syndrome diagnosis (etiopathology)
- Selection from meridian which shares same name
- Selection of points on opposite side
a) opposite to affected meridian
b) opposite to tender points - Selection of balancing points
