Order of Operations
Rules that describe the order that addition, subtraction, multiplication and division must be performed
Constant
A number in an expression that does not change (such as 2, -6, and 1/3 in an expression such as 2x - 6y + 1/3z)
Equation
A mathematical sentence stating that two quantities are equal and written as two expressions separated by an equal sign
Root of the equation
The number substituted for a variable that makes the equation a true statement
Inverse Operation
An operation that undoes another operation
Complex Fraction
A fraction in which the numerator, the denominator, or both the numerator and denominator are fractions (i.e., a fraction on top of a fraction)
Rational Expression
An algebraic expression that can be written like a fraction
