COUGH 90%
Dyspnea 65%
Sputum production 65%
Pleuritic chest pain 50%

Upper respiratory symptoms and malaise precede these symptoms

Respiratory rate >30/min. , hypotension, hypothermia , altered mental status
Lab findings:leukopenia (<4000)
Thrombocytopenia(<100,000) or uremia
Chest X-ray: multilobar infiltrates

Oseltamivir 75 mg bid is effective in reducing severity of infection if begun within 48 hrs of symptoms.
Drugs considered low risk during pregnancy.

Varicella pneumonia
If primary infection, typical
Maculopapular and vesicular rash accompanied by co story too al symptoms and fever for 3-5 days. If infection occurs before 20 weeks, fetus can be infected and permanent sequelae may result.

A

Prophylaxis: varicella zoster immunoglobulin VZIG experimental
Protocol. Not available in USA. Will either attenuate or prevent infection in exposed individuals.
