What is a job family?
a group of jobs involving work of the same nature but requiring different skill
what is job:
a group of tasks performed by one person that make up the total work assignment of that person
What is a task?
the smallest unit of analysis, a specific statement of what a person does
Steps of job analysis
- develop prelimary information
- conduct initial tour of work site
- conduct interviews (notes on selection of interviewees)
- conduct second tour of work site
- consolidate job information
- verify job description

What are some of the methodology?
Conventional method –> asking people and jobholders
advantage: increased undertsanding
disadvantage –> results are only as good as the people
Quantitative methods –> ranking each items by job holders based on importance
–> cost effective
–> sometimes inaccurate because jobholders dont realize how important something is
> discrepencies
What is job description?
lists all the task, duties, and responsibilities that make up a job and includes job specification
