Acute

Specimen

Pulse
Rhythmic expansion of an artery that occurs as the heart beats
Respiration
The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide within the body or to breathe
Tympanic thermometer
has a specially designed probe tip that is placed at the external opening of the ear Canal
systolic pressure
higher reading in blood pressure
diastolic pressure
lower reading in blood pressure
Inspection
The examiner uses eyes and ears to observe and listen to the patient. Can reveal superficial abnormalities.
Palpation
The examiner feels the texture, size, consistency, and location of certain body parts with the hands.
Percussion
The examiner taps the body with fingertips or fist to evaluate size, borders, and consistency of internal organs.
