Council of Jerusalem
Recounted in Acts 15, the synod of Apostles spoke with authority of Christ in deciding that Gentile converts to Christianity didn’t have to be circumcised according to Law of Moses
Ecumenical Council
formal synod of bishops(sometimes from other ecclesiastics) from whole world convened to define doctrine, regulate Christan life, or apply discipline in Church- 1st was held in Nicaea AD 325
Gnostic
ancient heretical sect that believed that salvation came from obtaining secret experimential knowledge
Heaven
eternal state of supreme and definitive happiness with God; communion of life and love with Trinity and all the blessed
Heavenly Liturgy
worship of God in Heaven by angels & saints, led by Christ the High Priest, who re-presents sacrificial offering of himself to the Father, thus renewing the work of our redemption
Keys of the Kingdom
in old Testament, sign of office of prime minister, who’s appointed by king to have primacy over all his servants. in new Testament, Jesus gives “keys to kingdom” to St. Peter, indicating that he would be both leader in this Church & Christ’s own representative on earth(1st pope)
Martyr
greek for “witness”. Witness of truth of the Faith in which Christian endures suffering and even Death for Christ
Mass
principal sacramental celebration and worship of Catholic Church, established by Jesus at Last Supper, where mystery of salvation through participation in sacrificial death and glorious ressurection of Christ is renewed and accomplished; Eucharist/Lord’s Supper
Pentacost
Jewish festival, 50 days after Passover celebrating giving of Law to Moses at Sinai. 50th day after Ressurection, Holy Spirit manifested, given, and communicated to Apostles, fulfilling mission of Christ. “Birthday” of Church
People of God
All the faithful from among humanity who seek & desire to know and love God
