What are the seven sacraments?
Sacraments of Christian Initiation:
- Baptism
- Confirmation
- Eucharist
Sacraments of Healing:
- Penance and Reconciliation
- Anointing of the sick

- Matrimony
What are examples of signs of God’s love?
- beauty of creation
- newborn babies
- people caring for one another
- Jesus Christ - the greatest sign of God’s love because he is the Son of God.

Sacrament of Baptism
We are united to Christ and become part of the Body of Christ and the People of God. We become children of god and member of the Church. We are freed from Original sin and all of our personal sins are forgiven.
Sacrament of Confirmation
We are sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. It continues what Baptism has begun. It strengthens us to live as Christ’s followers.
Eucharist
Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ. The Eucharist is connected to our baptism. Each time we receive Holy Communion, our bonds as the Body of Christ are made stronger.

is sharing God’s goodness and responding to his love by the way we live. Holiness comes through grace.
How do we grow in holiness?
We have to respond to the grace we receive in the sacraments. The Holy Spirit helps us do this. We follow Jessus’ example and his commandment to love others.
How did Jesus show that God has power over sickness and sin?
Through Jesus’ own suffering, Death and Resurrection.
How do we celebrate Jesus’ healing power?
- through the Sacraments of Penance and Recondiliation and

Penance and Reconciliation
Members of the Church are reconciled with God and with the Church. Those who are truly sorry confess their sins and are forgiven. Their relationship with God and the entire Church is made whole again.
Anointing of the Sick
A sacrament offered to those who are very sick and for those who are near death. Those who receive this sacrament are given the grace to respond to their illness with hope. It can heal them by calming their doubts and fears.
Sacrament of Holy Orders
God’s call for men to serve as ordained ministers in the Church.
- Bishops are the successors of the Apostles. They are the leaders and official teachers of the Church. They do this through their prayers, preaching, and the celebration of the sacraments. They help the followers grow in holiness.
- Priests are coworkers with the bishops. They are called to preach the Good News, celebrate the sacraments with us and for us, and guide the members of the Church.
- Deacons assist the bishops in works of service for the whole church. They baptize, witness marriages, preside at funerals, proclaim the Good News, and preach.
Sacrament of Matrimony
A man and woman pledge to love each other as God loves them. They promise to remain faithful and true to each other. The married couple promise to live lives of service to each other and to their children. It enables them to share their faith with their family and to servce the Church and the community.

The church has seven celebrations that are special signs of God’s love and presence. Jesus began the sacraments so that his saving work would continue for all time.
The sacraments join Catholics all over the world with Jesus and with one another. They unite us as the Body of Christ.
How can we grow in holiness?
Our holiness come through grace. We have to respond to the grace we receive in the sacraments. The Holy Spirit helps us to do this. We become aware of God working in our lives and follow Jesus’ example and his commandment to love others.
