1
Q

A

(red blood cells) made in bone marrow

-job is to carry oxygen from lungs to rest of body

Q

mononuclear leukotcyets (agranulocytes) mean/are…

A

nucleus is NOT lobulated, looks like one large nucleus, granuals are not visible

  • monocytes

Q

lymphocytes

A
  • agranulocytes
  • same size as blood cells,
  • produce antibodies that are released into blood stream, major responder to viral infections
  • most abundent

Q

monocytes

A

(phagocytes - eating cell)

  • biggest cell in blood, garbage collectors, after neutrophils (also a phagocyte) attack foreign cells, they eat destroyed material to clean up area
  • can also leave blood and enter tissue to become macrophages (large phagocytes)

Q

thrombcytes

A

(clotting cell) aka platelets (very very small)

  • tiny fragments of cytoplasm that are formed in marrow
  • never had a nucleus
  • necessary for blood clotting
  • exist in blood circulation in “resting state”
  • when exposed to subentaphilium (tissue around damaged vessel) then they become active and clot

16
Q

inguinal hernia

A

when inguinal canal weakens and small intestine enters into canal (indirect) or even the scrotum (direct)

17
Q

inguinalis

A

groin (which means abyss)

18
Q

basophils

A
  • granulocyte

- secrete heparin (anticlotting substance) and histamine (released in allergenic and inflammatory reactions)

19
Q

eosinphils

A
  • granulocyte

increase in number to help the body protect itself from allergens

20
Q

neutrophils

A
- granulocyte
"soldiers"
- arrive first where they act as phagocytes engulfing and destroying harmful mircoorganisms
- phagocyte
- life span of 6-24hrs
