Q

What assumptions have to be made with the black box ?

A
  1. must assume that only one method of uptake & elimination is dominant.
  2. both uptake & elimination happen in one compartment
  3. for some systems the entire organism may represent a compartment
  4. animals are often represented as a three compartment system.
  5. each of the transitions between the compartments will have rate constants
  6. compartment is instantly & homogeneously mixed
  7. kinetics & rate coefficients are constant over time.
  8. No biotransformation or organism effects take place in this compartment
