CH 28.4 notes Flashcards
What are seasonal changes?
When seasons occur on earth because the axis of rotation remains tilted in one direction during its orbit around the sun.
What are long-term changes?
Environmental changes that are much more gradual and allow populations the opportunity to adapt.
What human activities that affect Earth’s atmosphere?
Energy consumption, deforestation, and industrial and agricultural practice.
What is a carbon cycle?
Describes the process in which carbon atoms continually travel from the atmosphere to the earth and then back into the atmosphere when organisms die.
What affect dose fewer trees cause?
They won’t remove carbon dioxide and more CO2 is released.
What human activities contribute to greenhouse gases in the air?
Burning fossil fuels and land use.
How dose global warming affect the weather?
It increases water vapor in the atmosphere, which can lead to more frequent heavy rain and snowstorms.
How is el nino affect on weather?
During winter, leads to wetter conditions than usual in the Southern U.S. and warmer and drier conditions in the North.
How is la nina affect on weather?
During the winter, leads warmer and drier conditions than usual. The North and Canada tend to be wetter and colder.
What are some changes related to Earth’s orbit?
Changes in tilt on Earth’s axis of rotation, the shape of its orbit, and season that happen with distance from the sun.
