- Limit to 2000mg a day for frail elders
- monitor liver enzymes AST and ALT
- educate not to drink alcohol
- educate to keep out of reach for children

- narcotic drug derived from opium, used to treat severe pain
- CANNOT GIVE TO PERSON WITH RR OF LESS THAN 12 A MINUTE or if they have SEVER ASTHMA

- don’t give with other sedative drugs
- assess RESIRATORY RATE DON’T give if rr less than 12
- don’t give if BP is low (hypotension is indicated by 100/60 or below not to give meds) but need to know their Normal
- assess/monitor HR but remember that pain can effect your HR
- monitor for constipation
- increase fluid intakes and monitor all intake and output
- Assess pain level before giving!!! (OLDCART pain assessment)
