Ch. 25 - 2+ means Flashcards
ANOVA Assumptions (multiple μi’s)
- Independent Random Samples
- Equal Population Variances
- Normal Population Distribution
- Independent Observations
Equal Population Variances Assumption
Residuals v. Fitted Values - The spread of the residuals does not increase as fitted values increase (no fanning)
Normal Population Distribution Assumption
Normal Probability Plot of Residuals graph - the residuals do not stray away from the straight line pattern
Comparing 2+ μi’s:
OBS STUDY
H0: μ1= μ2 = μk
The factor is not associated with the RV/The means do not differ significantly
OBS STUDY
HA: At least 2 μi’s differ, i=1,2,3
The factor is associated with the RV/At least 2 means differ significantly
EXP STUDY
H0: μ1= μ2 = μk
The factor does not have an effect on the RV
EXP STUDY
HA: At least 2 μi’s differ, i=1,2,3
The factor does have an effect on the RV (not all means are equal)
ȳ
sample mean
ybarbar
overall sample mean
sample standard deviation
s
Total # of observations from all samples
N
Observational Study H0 rejected conclusion
At the 0.05 level, we can conclude that the means are significantly different
Experimental Study H0 rejected conclusion
At the 0.05 level, we can conclude that the means of the RV differ significantly for each treatment
If ANOVA Assumptions are violated
ANOVA results may not be valid
Turkey-HSD confidence level
simultaneous confidence level (1 - alpha)
