define “Personality”
relatively stable and characteristic pattern of behaviour
define “Self”
totality of an individual’s conscious experiences, thoughts, ideas and feelings with regards to himself/herself
define “Self-Concept”
the way we perceive ourselves and the ideas we hold about our competencies and attributes (can be negative or positive)
define “Self-Esteem”
the value judgement of a person about himself/herself (categories: social competence, academic competence, physical/athletic competence, physical appearance)
define “Overall Sense of Self-Esteem”
our capacity to view ourselves in terms of stable dispositions and to combine separate self-evaluations into a general psychological image of our self
define “Self-Efficacy”
it is Bandura’s term for an individual’s belief in their own effectiveness - i.e. their ability to master a situation and produce a positive outcome
define “Self-Regulation”
ability to organise and monitor our own behaviour
define “Self-Control”
learning to delay or defer the gratification of needs

biologically based characteristic way of reacting

relatively enduring, stable, persistent and specific ways of behaving on which individuals differ from one another
