How do you find the stem of a verb?
- Take the second principle part
- Take off the -re ending
- The part left over is the stem
(For example the second principle part for amō is amāre; if you take off the -re, the only thing left is amā, which is the stem of amō)
What is the stem of the verb?
It is the part of the verb that carries the meaning
It is the part that is left when you take the endings off of it
What is the person of a verb?
It tells you who is doing the action of the verb
It can be first, second, or third person
What does it mean to conjugate a verb?
To put together all the different forms of a verb
For example the amō chart has the conjugation for the present tense
What is the tense of a verb?
It tells the time when a verb is taking place
It can be past, present, or future
What is the number of a verb?
How many people are doing the action
It can be singular or plural
What are the present tense verb endings?
- ō -mus
- s -tis
- t -nt
