Ch 2: Cellular Pathology Flashcards
Inflammation
The body’s composite cellular reaction to an injury
Repair
The process of healing the injury by regenerating new cells to replace dead ones or by filling the void w/ scar tissue
Labile Tissue
Tissue is dividing rapidly and frequently
Stable Tissue
Have a few cells in the cell cycle, dividing but not frequently
Permanent Tissues
Cells that have very little or no dividing stem cells
Anoxia
Total lack of Oxygen
Hypoxia
Partial lack of oxygen
Ischemia
Decreased blood flow
Steatosis
Accumulation of fat in response to an acute mild injury
Hyperplasia
Enlargement of a tissue or organ owing to an increase in the number of cells.
Metaplasia
Reversible change of one cell type to another, caused by a chronic injury.
Dysplasia
Disordered Growth
Necrosis
Pathological death of cells
Cytokines
Protein molecules secreted by cells that act to enhance immune reactions
