Ch. 2 A Vocab Flashcards
Graphs
Pictures of points in a coordinate system in which points denote relationships between numbers
Coordinate system
A two-dimensional space in which one point represents two numbers
Interpolation assumption
The assumption that the relationship between variables is the same between points as it is at the points
Linear curve
A curve that is drawn as a straight line
Inverse relationship
A relationship between two variables in which when one goes up, the other goes down
Nonlinear curve
A curve that is drawn as a curved line
Direct relationship
A relationship in which when one variable goes up, the other goes up too
Slope
Change in value on the vertical axis divided by the change in value along the horizontal axis
Line graph
A graph where the data are connected by a continuous line
Bar graph
Graph where the area under each point is filled in to look like a bar
Pie chart
A circle divided into “pie pieces” where the undivided pie represents the total amount and the pie pieces reflect the percentage of the whole pie that the various components make up.
