Perceived Freedom: have choice to pursuit of leisure experiences or not
-Perceived Competence: (Have the skills to look ahead and anticipate)
Intrinsic Motivation:(external factors that are forcing you to go or do something)
Positive affect: (sense of choice or self-determination)
Factors that affect leisure experience
Viewed as a product of residual time
-Amount left over from obligations
-Casual, unstructured opportunities
-Leisure as discretionary time
Time
Leisure defined by categories of activity
-In actuality, there are no categories
-View is on an individual basis
-Leisure oriented may be perceived as work-oriented
Activity
-Based on personal perspective, feelings, values, past life experiences
State of mind
As wealth accumulates, the leisure class develops further in function and structure
- EX: Brand name of athletic shoe, Brand of clothes (Won’t wear a brand unless its known like nike or adidas)
Social Status
-Enhances individual or community life
-“Free time” perceived as having potentially negative or undesirable consequences
-Used to promote social order, harmony, and political framework
-Looking forward to things
Social Instrument
-Leisure does not have to serve any purpose and needs no justification.
Anti-Utilitarian concept
-You have your flaws but you have your strengths
- Present in many forms of human endeavor
-Individuals seek the opportunity for leisure at work, church, school, or other setting
Holistic Concept
Recapturing the elements inherent in the development of humankind
recapitulation theory
results from need of relaxation (opposite of surplus)
Relaxation theory
created when fatigue occurs from overuse or misuse of body
Recreation theory
Involvement occurs b/c participant is moved from within not by external factors (external factors that are forcing you to go or do something)
Intrinsic Motivation
result of excess energy after basic needs of survival are met
Surplus Energy Theory
Play is an instinct which is practiced as result of inherited factors.
Pre-exercise theory
Results from an individuals pent up energy
