Ch 2 Flashcards
raw data
data recorded in the sequence in which they are collected and before they are processed or ranked
frequency distribution of a qualitative variable
lists all categories and the number of elements that belong to each category
bar graph
a graph made of bars whos heights represent the frequencies of respective categories
pie chart
a circle divided into portions that represent the relative frequencies of a population or sample belonging to different categories
frequency distribution of quantitative date
lists all the classes and the number of values which belong to each class
grouped data
data presented in the form of a frequency distribution
class boundary
given by the midpoint of the upper limit of one class and the lower limit of the next calss
cumulative frequency distribution
gives the total number of values that fall below the upper boundary of each class
histogram
a graph ini which classes are marekd on the horizontal axis and the frequencies, relative frequencies or percentages are marked on the vertical axis
polygon
a graph formed by joining the midpoints of the tops of succesive bars in a histogram with straight lines
frequency curve
for a large dataset, as the number of classes increases, the frequency polygon eventually becomes a smooth curve
