Meter
Marked off in measures, organizes the beats, (the basic units) in music.
Rhythm
Is what moves music forward in time.

Duple, triple, quadruple are the most common.
Compound meters
Subdivide each beat into three, rather than two, subbeats. The most common is a sextuple meter which has six beats to a measure

Four beats to the measure, with a primary accent on the first and third beat
Upbeat
Last beat of the measure
Syncopation
A upsetting fm the normal pattern of beats
Offbeat
Instead of falling on a strong beat of a measure the accent is shifted to a weak beat
Polyrhythm
Simultaneous use of rhythmic patterns that conflict with the underlying beat. Used in African and jazz
